I ran into Rose near central park this past weekend. She shared some of the knowledge that she has acquired over the past 79 years. Rose told me, " There was always a long line of presentation. Not one item should outdo another. The pieces should compliment one another, to create one complete picture. This is how it used to be,there was an elegance before. We were working towards the face, everything was meant to flatter the face."
When I asked her why she wears gloves, she simply responded," To protect my hands."

I always have a blast with my pal Mary. At 71 years old she knows the secret to fooling mother nature, she says, "Sunglasses are better than a facelift, they hide the ravages of time, and let you spy on people." Mary keeps her style chic and classic, but when it comes to glasses she says,"You can break the rules once in a while, I'm not ready for a convent or anything so I can wear leopard glasses." Check out some more of Mary's many shades below.

Over the last two years I have learned so much about life and style from the wonderful people I have met and photographed for Advanced Style. They have taught me that it is important to embrace life's up and downs, continue to learn and challenge myself, and take the opportunities that come my way. Above are some of my my favorite quotes from some of these fabulous women.

I have talked about my dear grandma Bluma many times so I wanted to share some photos I found of her while I was visiting San Diego. She is the inspiration for Advanced Style and the reason why I feel so close to older people. She always nurtured my creativity and allowed me the freedom to be artistic. We would spend hours watching cartoons and old movies together, as she clicked her heels together and told me stories of days gone by. One of my favorite treats was to look through her drawers where she stashed her old scrapbooks and photo albums. This is where I established my sense of aesthetics, even then I had a sense of nostalgia and yearning for the glamour and grace of times gone by. She was an amazing woman and not a day goes by where I don't think of her. I hope you enjoy these photos and I would love to hear about your own wonderful grandparents or older people in your lives.

My name is Ari Cohen and this is my very first Blog. I hope to use this as a forum to document the inspirational street fashion of our respected elders. I have always looked to street fashion for inspiration and since moving to New York four months ago I noticed how awesome so many of New York's older men and women styled. My main goal is to capture examples of "Advanced Style" from the sophisticated and well dressed to the accidentally stylish and colorful folks out on the town. I will post submissions from all over so feel free to send photos and captions to email@example.com.
I took the photo above in a Seattle park. I stopped to talk to these two Russian women whose style stood out against the gang of hipsters playing kickball in the field near by.
